Remembering Lesley (Right)

For those of you who didn’t know Lesley, she was a staunch Afghan Hound supporter for many years, she got her first Afghan shortly after she and Graham married, this was a companion born in 1972. This sparked her interest more and she began going to local shows. In 1979 Graham brought her Montravia Mazar Manzanita who became her foundation bitch for the Lezarah breeding programme, Manzanita was mated in 1985 to Ch Barnesmore Imperial Wizard.

From this union Lesley kept two Pups, Lezarah Lysander and Lezarah Peas Blossom. In time Blossom was put to CH Saxonmill Blackcurrant, again Lesley kept a dog and a bitch, Lezarah Blackadder and Lezarah Coco Chanel, who eventually was put to my own CH Rochander Phaleg. From this mating Lesley kept two girls and a boy, after several attempts to mate Lezarah Spice Girl (sadly not successfully) Lezarah Essex Girl produced a litter when mated to CH Mellek Jakobs Creek, this is the litter in the ring now.

Lesley served for many years on EEAC committee, only retiring when she returned to college in the early 90s, and eventually graduating in 93. Lesley had worked for the probation service since the late 70s, in the early 90s becoming a fully fledged probation officer.

In 2000 she received the High Sheriffs award for outstanding work leading to the conviction of a child killer and was praised for her efforts which saved other young lives. She was then promoted to a Senior Probation Officer and a new role helping victims of crime.

Lesley was a wonderful mixture of strength and caring, always at the end of the phone when needed. I miss her very much but I am thankful that she touched my life. I asked her once why she didn’t take her judging further, her reply “I don’t like to see the upset on the owners faces when I have to put their dog down the line”, that was Lesley.

My lasting memories? the monthly picnics with husband Graham and dogs in tow, Lure Coursing, dogs shattered but smiling, sun shining and a nice glass of wine !!! ! And the voice behind me (Lesley) when the judge at Windsor Ch show pulled Josh and Lesley’s pups out first in Stud Dog and Progeny, all I heard was this voice behind YESSSSS

The world was a nicer place with you in it dear Lesley.

Brian and David (Numa Afghan Hounds)

Lesley I am so very sorry to read this news. She has put up such a brave "fight" for so long. My happy memories of Lesley go back a long way when she first brought out her lovely Manzar Manzinita in the early 80s, whose grandsire SHANKA was litter brother to my own SHURA, I gave her a junior and BOS at a lovely show we used to have at Saffron Walden in Essex, held in a farmer's field! Lesley came along to see my Kalinka / Shafi puppies in the nest and I later went to see her first litter from Manzanita. We always corresponded at Christmas time (OLD FRIENDS) A kind, caring person she will be missed by many. I will drop Graham a little card .

Sylvia (Amshura Afghan Hounds)

Jackie & Alan (Buttle)

Hi Lesley Only just read your news about Lesley. How very sad. Did not know about her illness but send my condolences to her friends and family. Remember Lesley so well from my time showing in the south of England back in the late 70's and 80's - such a lovely person.

Love Lyn and John (Kazdanabad Afghan Hounds)

Dear Lesley Please pass Keith's and my sincere condolences to Lesley's family - and these also come from all at B.S.F.A as Lesley and Graham were staunch supporters of lure coursing with Lezarah Spice Girl and Lezarah Essex Girl whilst Keith and I were involved. She was such a very pleasant lady - such a loss to the afghan community.

Di and Keith Searle (Salamkhan Afghan Hounds)

Lesley Phillip's funeral took place yesterday at Pitsea crematorium. There was a very large turnout, many of Lesley's work colleagues joined her family, as well as quite a few affie friends. It was a Humanist service, emotional and beautiful. There was not a dry eye at the poignant singing of "Whisper of Angels".

Lesley was well liked in our world of Afghans, and her love of our breed was obvious. What came across at this warm and sharing service was just how much more there was to Lesley, and just what she meant to her family and close friends. Gerry (Ghinja)

"I'll be the whisper of Angels

And I'll be the frost on your glass

And I'll be the shadows at twilight

I'll be your first, your last"

I agree with you Gerry - it was a most lovely service. The chapel was filled to capacity - there must of been around 200 people there, many of them Lesley's colleagues from the Probation Service, where she was held in such high regard.

Graham's sister's speech was so emotional, and we learnt such a lot about Lesley from that - her tennis playing skills, the fact that she was an accomplished pianist, and the high office that she held in her workplace. But most of all, what a lovely person she was...She will be very much missed, and our thoughts continue to be with Graham, and the rest of Lesley's family and close friends.
