Auction Two for The Animal Health Trust
Update 26th November 2007
For those amongst us who have so kindly contributed to the efforts in fund
raising for CAMBRIDGE VET SCHOOL TRUST FUND, you may be interested in the latest
update on the HOPE APPEAL for the refurbishment of the cancer therapy unit at
their Queens Veterinary School Hospital, the current radiotherapy machine is now
some 30 yrs old having been purchased originally, second hand, from the NHS &
fund raising has been directed toward a new machine, known as a linear
accelerator.
Katy Berman tells me in a recent letter, following my sending to her some
further donations given to me.....
WE HAVE JUST PAID THE SECOND INSTALMENT OF THE THREE PAYMENTS DUE FOR THE
RADIOTHERAPY MACHINE. THE COST OF THE MACHINE IS £500K AND WE ONLY HAVE THE
FINAL £50K INSTALMENT REMAINING WHICH WILL NOT BE DUE UNTIL IT IS UP & RUNNING.
NOW WE JUST HAVE TO RAISE THE MONEY TO COVER FOR THE BUILDING ITSELF!!
BUILDING WORK STARTED DURING THE SUMMER AND IS, SO FAR, ALL GOING TO PLAN WITH
THE OPENING SCHEDULED FOR SPRING 2008.IT CANNOT COME A MOMENT TOO SOON AS THE
ONOCOLOGY TEAM ARE RELYING ON AN EVEN LESS POWERFUL & ARCHAIC PIECE OF EQUIPMENT
TO DELIVER TREATMENT"
I hope to be having my usual BRING & BUY fund raising stall at the 2008 EEAC CH
show at Wood Green, so remember those unwanted Christmas pressies could find a
home!
Many Thanks
Sylvia

Update 27th March 2007
I have received the following letter of
THANKs from the RVC Animal Care Trust .
Dear Sylvia.
Thank you so much for your very kind donation of £100 to the Royal Veterinary
College Animal Care Trust which you raised through the Bring & Buy stall.
I have allocated this donation to our Queen Mother Hospital Development appeal.
As you have made a gift aid declaration, we are able to claim back a further £28
.21 making you total donation £128.21.
Our current fundraising appeal, Paws foR a Cause, has now raised over £2million
of the £5million needed to redevelop our QM hospital for Animals. The hospital
will be fitted with separate waiting rooms for cats & dogs as well as fully
equipped operating theatres & intensive care units. The construction work
started in December 2006 and we are expecting significant sections of this new
building to be optional by the end of this year, with a full completion due in
2008.
Thanks you again for your support, along with the boxes of stamps.
sincerely
Joanne Hussain. (Fundraising Manager)
I called into the RVC a couple of weeks ago & having not been to the
Hertfordshire campus since 1991 I was aware of so many changes & many new
buildings that have gone up since the 80s apart from the Q.M hospital, which is
currently being further enlarged to cope with the demands on its services in
specialist care, such having been recently demonstrated in a second series of
SUPER VETS on BBC1.

The ANIMAL HEALTH TRUST's Cancer Appeal has raised an incredible £78,000, a wonderful achievement! As we come close to reaching the £81,000 needed, the Animal Health Trust would like to thank all those who have helped us get this far.
This money will not only enable our clinicians to continue improving methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer but will help with the AHT's more long-term goal in the fight against the disease. This lies in the work of our research scientists, who are studying GENETICS to IDENTIFY PARTICULAR GENES which give dogs, cats and horses an INCREASED RISK of developing CANCER.
Are you able to help us make the difference? If so, you can donate by phoning or posting your donation to the fundraising department (contact details at the bottom of this email) or on our website at http://www.aht.org.uk/fundraising_appeal_cancer.html I have just sent this charity another £100 raised from my bring and buy stall from the EOE CH show
