I first saw an Afghan Hound on a school trip to the then Cheshire Agricultural Ch show. It was love at first sight. I will always remember him. He was a black masked silver of Anzani breeding. It was then a case of ‘Can I ,can I please have one’ almost everyday until my parents relented and the first Afghan arrived on the scene. Zak was born in 1968, a black/silver from Sherrendale breeding He was a bit of a culture shock compared to the Irish Terriers and Kerry Blue Terriers that we had always had. He was not really a good show dog but we learnt together.
Shortly after Zia arrived. Her show name was Pooghans Bethsura. A self masked Apricot/Silver. She was a real poppet. She loved everybody and everything. She did quite well in the show ring. However it was when SARIK SARAWAK arrived on the scene things really took off. He was born in 1972.He was a black masked Red and a born showman .He was rarely out of the cards, even with the classes of 63+. He won hundreds of B.O.B.s, countless B.I.S.s and a Res CC. We bred our first litter in 1973 when Pooghans Bethsura was mated to Ch Koolaba Horningsea Eboni Earl.
In 1974 Moonswift Mozart and Sarik Shahara joined us. These two are the foundation dogs of our breeding lines. Bred together in 1977 they produced our first Ch. The rest they say is history. For more information visit www.zharook.com
I passed the AHA judging exam in1977 and have judged at most of the UKs Breed Club Shows and several overseas.
