UK Afghan Hound JUDGES

Wilbus Afghan Hounds

Lesley & Alan Busby

We started in Afghans in 1970, having purchased a black masked gold bitch, Reina of Jagai, from Daphne Gie who, at that time, lived around 20 miles from us.  We showed her in a very small way, as we were raising our family at that time. We subsequently mated her, and from one litter she produced a CC winning bitch, Firecracker from Barakhel and from another litter she produced a very good brood bitch, Wilbus Doremi Dinah. She was the dam of the bitch that was the foundation of Gerry & Hazel Darnley’s Ghinja kennel, producing champions in her first litter.

Showing continued to take a back seat until the early 80s, when we purchased a bitch from the Amudarya lines. We showed her with some success, and when mated she produced the first Wilbus champion, Champion Wilbus Fleur de Lys at Bowentree.

During the same period we also bought in a bitch from VDOM and Pasharif lines who became the foundation of our present lines.  She produced Champion Wilbus Hanukah, a bitch known for her outstanding movement.

In 1986 we purchased a puppy dog from Dan & Lesley James, who was of VDOM and Khanabad lines.  He subsequently became Champion Jahadi Bosch at Wilbus.

During 1989 we mated Hanukah to Champion Karnak Mulberry and she produced several RCC winners.  Hanukah was subsequently mated to a Katree dog and produced our bitch, Wilbus Kismet, who was the winner of the Junior Year Book Trophy, and won seven reserve CCs. Her brother Ch Wilbus Kharjeem of Phinjani won 14 C.C.s and 9 RC.C.s

Kismet was mated to Ch & Ir Ch Karaburan Jelly Roll Morton and this litter produced 3 champions, a rare accomplishment in the UK.  They include our own Champion Wilbus Libretto, and Champions Wilbus Lovesong JW and  Wilbus Luciano at Mazaresarif.

We are at present campaigning 2 of Libretto’s offspring,  Champion Tulak Risky Business at Wilbus JW, and ChampionTulak Rogue Trader at Wilbus JW.  We are extremely proud that Libretto is Top Afghan Stud Dog 2005 in the Dog World/Royal Canin competition.

We breed infrequently, having bred 2 litters in the last 12 years. We have been awarding CCs in the UK since 1991 and 1995 respectively and have judged in Europe and Australia.  Lesley is to award CCs in Dogs at Crufts 2009.
