Open Show - 7th October 2007
My thanks to the Committee for their kind invitation to officiate at this Club Show, and also to the exhibitors for accepting my decisions sportingly
I had an entry of 45 with relatively few absentees. Overall it was a typical entry, some good, some bad, I must admit that in some respects I was a little disappointed with the quality of some exhibits, especially the lack of forward reach. In general I found no bad mouths, most were in good coat and condition, there were several distinct variations in type and in some classes it was extremely difficult to find my ideal. Exhibits which looked superb in profile were very poor movers, and vice versa, trying to match up the two proved testing.
Veteran Dog (1)
1.Gray’s Aramaic Errol Flynn, 9yrs old, cream and gold just beginning to grey a little, strong balanced head with good pigmentation, sound front construction and lay of shoulders, one of the few that had elbows tight in, excellent ribbing and good rear angulation, a little lazy on the move.
Junior Dog (4)
1.Wilkinson’s Jahadi Exus, b/w, a nice make and shape to this dog, correctly proportioned head with good pigmentation, strong neck with good lay of shoulder, front construction sound, enough depth of brisket but spring of rib could be better, well muscled hind angulation, moved soundly with drive.
2.Dodd’s Aramaic Take Me I’m Yours, similar outline to 1, pleasing in head and front construction, topline ok but I felt was a little short in back which affected his hind action, well ribbed with enough spring.
3.Gray’s Sarakhan Sherdan
Yearling Dog (8)
1.Boydell’s Warrenoak What’s In a Name JW, excellent in profile, masculine well proportioned head with dark eye, strong neck and lovely shoulders, correct hind angulation with sufficient length to thigh, not quite in full coat, moved very well with enough forward reach and rear drive. Best Dog & RBIS
2.Sanderson/Saywood’s Gezancol Done and Dhusted at Nabilah JW, has matured well since last I judged him, masculine head with typical expression, good pigmentation, enough length to neck, good forward and hind construction, good depth to chest but would benefit from a bit more spring of rib.
3.Wilkinson’s Jahadi Exus
Novice Dog (1)
1.Green/Powell’s Sochera’s Beaujolais, brindle, 4th in Junior, nice type who presented a good outline when standing, but needs to master the art of moving correctly, pleasing well balanced head, soundly constructed both front and rear, would like a bit more bone and substance.
Graduate Dog (3)
1.King’s Serra Parecis I’m Alright at Jack Belamba JW ShCM, super well balanced head with good pigmentation, excellent front construction with super lay of shoulder, sufficient ribbing which were well sprung, good depth of brisket and elbows tight in, well angulated hind quarters, felt his tail set was a bit high which spoilt his outline at times. Moved with purpose. Res Best Dog
2.Caton’s Katanga’s True Blue, topline let this one down, strong in head with typical expression, strong well muscled neck, good front construction with good depth of brisket, would like slightly longer back, well angulated and muscled hindquarters, good front movement but not so good at the rear.
3.Fincham’s Youseff Al Daoud
Post Graduate Dog (4)
Difficult decision between 1 & 2, winner had slightly better coat and movement
1.Simpson/Fitzgerald’s Neliapilan Jaako-Kulta at Tajikh, elegant and soundly constructed with that typical afghan expression, beautiful flowing outline, balanced fore and aft, strong neck and back, good depth of brisket, in excellent coat, moved very well with good rear drive.
2.Keates’ Jodak the Court Jester, another I have judged before and he has matured into a sound specimen, well proportioned head with good pigmentation, presented a good outline standing and on the move, front construction is good, would like a bit more turn of stifle as I feel this is the cause of the lack of rear drive.
3.Lewis/Wilson/Brownless’ Tolah in Demons Image
Limit Dog (7, 1abs)
A strong class, my 1 & 2 were very close but unfortunately on the day they both played up on the move.
1.Brown/Lee’s Sukeshi the Great Pretender, soundly constructed with a very good outline, not yet in full coat, masculine well proportioned head with strong jaws, good length to neck and very good shoulder placement, correct topline with enough fallaway, strong well muscled thighs. Moved OK in the class but paced in the challenge.
2.Bunney’s Firos Torran at Zadal JW, one to admire, both elegant and powerful, but just would not move today, he has the quality and type that I look for, correct masculine head with beautiful expression, lovely shape to eye. Excellent in outline, with super front and hind angulation, good neck & topline, strong hindquarters.
3.Sanderson/Saywood’s Zushkhan’s Black Mamba at Nabilah
Puppy Bitch (2, 1abs)
1.Jones/Trethowan’s Jimellree Molly Maquire at Pahlevi, not quite 12mths old, has promise, all round make and shape is good, feminine head with good expression, stands over enough ground, good shoulders, hindquarters and correct topline. Rather erratic on the move so needs time to mature and steady down. BPIS.
Veteran Bitch (2, 1abs)
1.Boydell’s Afterglow After Dark at Warrenoak JW, 9yrs old, in good coat and presented well, pleasing outline with good fore and aft angulation, a really typical afghan expression from a lovely shaped head, strong back and loin with correct tail set. I would like a bit more substance to her, covered the ground really well. Best Veteran in Show
Junior Bitch (2)
1.Stainsby’s Cloudside Match Maid, a little fine for me but she has time to body up and with a full coat will look a lot better, balanced throughout with a good head on a strong neck, needs to settle in movement.
2.Green/Powell’s Sochera’s Asti Spumante, rather square in outline, longish neck, loose elbows, well angulated hindquarters, rather long tail, as 1 needs to fill out and acquire full coat.
Novice Bitch (2, 1abs)
1. Green/Powell’s Sochera’s Asti Spumante
Graduate Bitch (3, 1abs)
1.Hatch’s Mashaalah Shaadi, fawn & gold of nice type and outline, head of good proportions with enough pigmentation, sufficient depth of brisket and ribbing, elbows need to be tighter in, correct topline and fallaway, strong hindquarters, let down by movement both front and hind.
2.Matthews’ Wongaburra Blue Wonarah at Moonshadow, pleasing head, neck and shoulders, sufficient length and depth to ribs, outline spoilt by rising topline, correct rear angulation, moved with drive from the rear but a touch wide in front.
Post Graduate Bitch (2, 1abs)
1.Mulvale’s Birkhall Megan, a delightful typey bitch, correctly proportioned throughout, beautiful balanced head with good pigmentation, well muscled neck with good shoulders and front construction, super topline, could do with a bit more turn of stifle, moved well around the ring, would like to see her make better use of her tail. Best Bitch & BIS.
Limit Bitch (3)
Very close between 1 & 2
1.Simpson/Fitzgerald’s Freecloud Limonta, b/f fawn, bitch of good make & shape with pleasing outline, well developed ribs, good shoulders and front, strong well angulated hindquarters, good length to thighs, moved well with good tail carriage. Res Best Bitch
2.Green/Powell’s Sochera’s Blackberry Wine, black, slightly smaller than 1 but same comments apply, nice balanced head with good expression and pigmentation, good front action but did not drive as well as 1.
3.Matthews’ Normarand Wishful Dream at Moonshadow.
