DID YOU KNOW? DO YOU CARE?
Did you know
your Afghan Hound could be hypothyroid but could still look a picture of health?
I didn’t!
Did you know that Hypothyroidism can cause
bad false pregnancies? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause cancers to
develop if a dog has a predisposition for them? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause some dogs to
have unexplained bouts of diarrhoea at times? I didn’t!
Did you know that AI HT can cause dwarfism
or congenital abnormalities or litter absorption or miscarriages? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause some dogs to
have the same symptoms as allergies? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause abnormal heat
cycles, delayed seasons, blind seasons? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause pyometra? I
didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause your dog,
either sex, to become sterile or have low sperm count? I didn’t!
Did you know HT can be passed down the
lines, it is a familial disease? I didn’t!
Did you know that if a dog is HT and
develops heart problems such as DC the symptoms can be reversed if on soloxine
in time? I didn’t!
Did you know the testing for HT is easily
done and by doing it and getting them on the right medication you could give
your dog a much happier outcome? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT mimics many, many other
diseases? I didn’t!
Did you know that your dog could be middle
aged before even the slightest first symptom showed, by then the thyroid is well
on the way to be destroyed? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT can cause lifelong
intermittent ear problems? I didn’t!
Did you know that HT dogs do not have to be
fat and lethargic to be HT? I didn’t
Did you know that you cannot diagnose HT (or
the lack of it) just by looking at a dog? I didn’t!
Did you know that by breeding from these
dogs or bitches we are causing more heartache for people, and mostly for the
dogs themselves for generations to come?
Because I did not know or test the mother of my last
two litters my dogs had many of the above problems
Neither did I know about the many others
symptoms it can cause, or how a dog can appear to have none of these symptoms
yet but still be HT. It may well have been diagnosed as having died of other
causes, but it could have been the thyroid that may have been at the bottom of
it, and by testing and correct medication more problems may have been avoided.
Did you know that by testing the stud dog
and brood bitch before having a litter all the above may well be avoided? and
did you know this may well be a much wider spread problem than anyone is
prepared to admit in public, as Sylvia and others have been trying to tell
everyone without much success for the last 10 years. I suggest everyone takes a
look at these two websites by Jean Dodds. as Sylvia has stated many times Jean
is the No.1 person in this field in the world. Read it right to the end if you
say you love this breed of ours please, as this doesn’t affect just other breeds
but the Afghan Hound too.
