Afghan Hound Critique
Judge Ms Claire Hindley
Thank you so much to the Committee of the Border Union for the opportunity to
award CCs for the first time, at this, one of my favourite shows and venues. For
years I’ve been getting sunburnt at Kelso but not this year…Due to the rain and
mud I elected to use the wet weather ring, I didn’t want dogs, or exhibitors,
slipping on the wet grass. A special thank you must go to my stewards Les and
Hazel.
May I congratulate everyone on their Afghan’s presentation – not a wet or muddy
dog in sight, no easy task. The presentation was in fact of a very high standard
but I did find 3 matted dogs, a couple had dirty teeth and a few were in very
soft muscle condition.
I was totally spoilt for choice in most of the classes, to the extent that some
personal favourites went cardless…
MPD (2,1a)
1st WYPER’S KAZZLYN STORMTROOPER Profusely coated brindle dog puppy.
Attractive, masculine head and expression hidden under a wealth of monkey
whiskers. Well angulated front, good depth of chest. Moved well.
PD (4.0a)
1st HAWARDEN’S CLOUDSIDE MATCH MASTER OF AMANRHA 3 totally different
puppies. 1st was a Black masked pale gold, very stylish young dog, the best
mover in the class, good neck and shoulders, natural saddle, fallaway leading to
ring tail. Best Puppy.
2nd HARRIS’S CASA BLANCA OF ZENDUSHKAS taf Pristine Self Masked White
dog, refined head with dark eyes and lovely expression – chiselling already.
Longer cast puppy than 1 with a well angulated rear.
3rd O’DONNELL’S JAVIDAN DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
JD (8,2a)
1st LLOYD’S KRISHAN SOLOMAN Masculine Black Masked Gold dog, his enormous
coat was presented beautifully on this wet and muddy day. This handsome young
man moved out well to win this super, and hotly contested class. Good bone and
overall construction.
2nd MOORE’S CLOUDSIDE WARPAINT This striking brindle really excels in
head and expression, good neck and level top-line. A balanced hound both
standing and on the move.
3rd WEBSTER’S CLOUDSIDE WARSTRIKE
ND (2,0a)
1st BETTANY & DALY’S WILBUS MORPHEUS Black masked Gold dog just out of
puppy. He strode powerfully round the ring with great long strides and using
good extension. A very attractive and promising young dog.
2nd WILSON’S CLOUDSIDE WARMONGER Unplaced in Junior this is the
naughtiest dog – he bounced around the ring in all directions, making it
impossible to assess his movement. Pleasing head and expression, dark eyes. Good
shape standing.
GD (15,6a)
1st OAKLEY & GARRAD’S FREECLOUD COPENHARGEN Shaded masked cream with a
deep, natural, golden saddle. A really stylish mover, I particularly liked him –
balanced, level top-line, fallaway leading to ring tail. Well handled and shown
in great condition. Just too immature, as yet, for the RCC.
2nd SIMPSON & FITZGERALD’S NELIAPILAN JAAKO-KULTA AT TAJIKH (imp)
Slightly finer all through but still masculine, this is another lovely dog of a
different type. Pleasing outline with a good top-line, well angulated and
finished with a ring tail.
3rd GRAY’S KHAMIS KILIMANJARO
PGD (10,4a)
1st MORRISON’S JASCARAH PURE GENIUS JW ShCM Black masked shaded gold dog
who was spooked on the first run round but recovered well. Standing he has the
most gorgeous head and classic shape – a real quality Afghan, he moved well too!
2nd BRESLIN & O’DONNELL’S KAZZLYN KLASSY KONTENDER Black Masked pale
gold, not quite the front of 1 and longer in loin but won his well deserved
place on movement over some rather nice dogs. Totally sound and strode out well.
3rd BUNNEY’S FIROS TORRAND AT ZADAL JW
LD (13,3a)
1ST OAKLEY & GARRAD’S METEWAND KILTRAVA TO FREECLOUD Eye-catching White
dog with good pigmentation and dark expressive eyes. He appealed to me greatly
with his houndy outline and his true and effortless movement. Very stylish. RCC
2nd STENHOUSE, BETTRIDGE & DE-MEI THUJA ALL IN THE GAME JW (imp Ned) A
totally different Black and Cream. An elegant hound , super head and neck, well
angulated and moved so well. I liked him very much.
3rd BLACK’S CHINZAES KHAMIS XALTANT
OD (11,2a)
A fabulous class containing some of my favourite Afghans….
1st HALL’S CH SAXONMILL RUM TUM RIO JW Black and cream mature male. I
loved his handsome head and super dark eye. A graceful yet powerful hound he
moved so well, good angulation, level top-line and a ring tail. Shown in super
condition, a quality dog and a pleasure to judge him. CC
2nd O’NEILL’S CH AMUDARYA SHEKINAH AT TERSTINE The most beautifully
headed black masked shaded Gold. An elegant hound with so much to like about
him. Sound on the move with plenty of drive from powerful quarters.
3rd NOBLE & WILCOX’S CH DESTINY DU JEGDALEK AVEC BICHOUX JW
MPB (2,1a)
1st MCCRINDLE’S KAZZLYN SHE’S A TIGER Feminine brindle bitch. Sound and
balanced on the move but didn’t want me to touch her at all. I didn’t force the
issue and eventually managed to go over her. Rather nice puppy.
PB (2,1a)
1st O’DONNELL’S JAVIDAN KEEP THE FAITH Delightful temperament on this
feminine brindle. She has a lovely head and super eyes. Adequate balanced
angulation. Tight ring tail. Best Puppy Bitch.
JB (7,0a)
7 beautiful young bitches – what a class!
1st RODGERS, FREER & MOORE’S CLOUDSIDE WARDANCE AT MONTRAVIA A real
showgirl this brindle has a gorgeous head and dark eye, long neck and lovely
flowing shape. Moved effortlessly round the ring.
2nd MCCORMACK’S WILBUS MYA AT TULAK At 12 months, this tall, black masked
gold bitch was the youngest in the class. She is so well constructed and moves
accordingly. Beautiful head and expression.
3rd LLOYD’S CLOUDSIDE WARDAWN
NB (2,0a)
1st MCCORMACK’S WILBUS MYA AT TULAK
2nd BECK’S METEWAND KOOMOOLOO AT ZILBEC Slightly more compact Shaded

to like about her. Good outline, moved well and with enthusiasm.
GB (11,0a)
1st HOWIE & BLACK’S KHAMIS KISSPROOF Shaded masked gold with red saddle.
Under a huge and immaculate coat there is a really nice bitch. She won this
strong class on overall shape and balance with a pleasing outline, feminine head
and expression with dark, intelligent eyes. Moved really well.
2nd ANDREW’S ANDIZHAN ARATEEKAH Longer brindle bitch, not quite as
feminine in head as 1 but I really liked her, too. Well angulated front and
rear, she also moved really well and with style.
3rd NEWTON’S DRISHAUN DAISYMAE AT SHIMALMA JW
PGB (11,2a)
1st RYALL’S METEWAND WISCASSET JW ShCM Black masked gold. Moved most
impressively to win this class, she just got better and better each time she
went. Classic houndy outline, I would prefer a more feminine head. Presented and
handled well, shown in good condition.
2nd ROBERTSON & RICHARDSON’S KHAMIS KALEIDOSCOPE AT HUBBLEBUB Well named,
feminine and striking brindle domino. Preferred her head and overall femininity
to 1, another very nice bitch, good shape, level top line and fallaway, she also
moved very well. I would just prefer a fraction more neck.
3rd TURLEY & JONES’ SASHKAN CAROLES DESTINY
LB (16,4a)
1st WESTON’S KHAMIS WITH ATTITUDE AT SANSTAS JW Excellent movement here from
this glamorous brindle bitch. Good forward reach and plenty of drive, huge big
ground covering strides. Balanced head with wickedly dark eyes and expression.
Pleasing outline with level top-line, sweeping quarters. Shown in beautiful coat
with the longest of ear fringes. Good body condition and very fit. CC and BOB.

exaggerated in any way. Handled and presented to perfection as you would expect
from this exhibitor.
