The Afghan Hound Association

Championship Show

21st July 2007

My thanks to the Officers and Committee of the Afghan Hound Association for ensuring that my day was so enjoyable.
I was very pleased with the quality of my entry. Obviously many people made an educated guess as to what I look for.
Due to the atrocious weather conditions, judging was held indoors. My ring, unfortunately, had two different surfaces, part carpet and part vinyl, and this affected the continuity of movement of many of the dogs.

Veteran Dog (5)

1. Aramaic Errol Flynn
Dark masked cream dog of 8 years in good condition. Well laid shoulder and upper arm, deep chest, level topline and correct fallaway with ring tail. Balanced quarters. Moved around the ring with sound co-ordinated strides.
2. Bondor Back With A Vengeance ShCM
Gold dog, 10 years old, with dark mask and a most attractive head. Good shoulder & upper arm with sound quarters and correct fallaway. Large feet. Moved out well.
3. Mhasud Sho-Un Of Saboush

Minor Puppy Dog (2)

1. Jimellree First Knight At Kashiba
Two golds, but completely different. The first a raw, rangy boy, but moving out well, using his conformation to advantage, which was impressive for such a baby. I would have liked more strength to his head but this will hopefully come with maturity. Of good make and shape, I liked this youngster.
2. Valkor Dare To Be Different
A far chunkier baby. Well off for bone and sound in makeup. Large feet. A bit of a handful, especially on the move, but not quite the scope of the winner. A most endearing temperament, and a delightful wicked expression.

Puppy Dog (4)

1. Sarakhan Sirocco
Dark masked gold puppy from a very promising litter. Promising head and well made throughout. Good shoulder & upper arm and complimentary quarters. Correctly muscled for his age. Finished off with a well set on ring tail. Moved out well with some exuberance. Needs to tighten a bit yet but this will come. A very promising puppy.
2. Sarakhan Sherdan
Showy black & silver baby with not as much substance at this stage as his brother. Very raw at the moment, but nevertheless showing promise. Balanced head, pleasing outline and quite scopey movement.

Junior Dog (10)

1. Krishan Soloman
This dog headed a very good class and I was splitting hairs between the first three. This dark masked gold is right up my street and his springy, ground-covering gait caught my eye at the start of the class. Balanced throughout with correct shoulder & upper arm placement, level topline and well set on ring tail. Well off for bone, low, strong hocks. Lots more to come from this dog, and I will follow him with interest.
2. Cloudside Warstrike
Self masked cream dog – different in outline to 1 but nevertheless of a type that I admire. A rangier dog with outstanding movement, covering ground with strength and purpose. Most attractive, masculine head with strong neck leading into a correct front assembly. The required angle to the fallaway enables him to carry his ring tail at the right angle. Sweeping quarters to low, strong hocks.
3. Cloudside Warpaint

Yearling Dog (9)

1. Freecloud Copenhagen
Cream dog, balanced throughout with a good spring of rib, sloping pasterns, low hocks and effortless free movement. Masculine head with strong jaw and good eye shape and colour. I loved his elegant outline, complimented by his correct coat pattern. Just beginning to come into his own and should do well in the future.
2. Freecloud Arion With Dominguez
Cream grizzle dog – litter brother to 1st. Well made throughout. Striking head with the darkest of eyes, excellent pigmentation and the desirable chiselling to finish the picture. Good lay of shoulder with level topline and sound quarters, culminating in sound co-ordinated movement. Lots to like about this dog.
3. Gezancol Done and Dhusted

Maiden Dog (5)

1. Krishan Soloman
2. Drishaun Ask Me No Questions
Brindle dog of lovely type. Refined masculine head and a nice overall shape with a good front assembly and good ribbing. Well off for bone and large feet. Shown in excellent condition. Just needs to build his confidence.
3. Khamis King Tut Among Dominique

Novice Dog (5)
1. Krishan Soloman
2. Drishaun Ask Me No Questions
3. Khamis King Tut Among Dominique

Special Beginners Dog (3)
1. Freecloud Arion With Dominguez
2. It Had To Be You
Dark masked gold, nicely made throughout and presenting a pleasing picture. Appealing head and expression, well laid shoulders, level topline and sound quarters. I admired his overall outline but I would have expected more out of him on the move.
3. Jahadi Exus

Graduate Dog (4)

1. Istani Your Love Is King At Zharook JW
Self masked gold with the most elegant of heads. Excelling in front construction with sound rear quarters, which he used to advantage on the move, carrying his tail correctly. Shown in first class condition. I was impressed with this dog.
2. Birkhall Enigma At Sololia
Dark brindle dog – another very nice dog. Taller than first, but balanced construction. Good ground cover but not quite the reach of 1.
3. Gezancol Done & Dhusted

Post Graduate Dog (11)
1. Neliapilan Jaakko-Kulta At Tajikh (Imp)
Dark masked gold. Balanced head with dark eye. A good shape on the stack, balanced throughout with no exaggerations. An easy mover and showing himself off to advantage. Level topline and a ring tail completed the picture.
2. Mashaalah Namu To Suzaph JW
Dark masked gold. A lovely dog, more my type than 1, with the most lovely head and low set ears. Presenting a lovely outline with a good length of neck to well laid shoulders. Good return of upper arm and sweeping quarters with ring tail carried correctly and big feet. Unfortunately he was in a skittish mood on the move and threw away this class.
3. Lezarah Shiraz At Yorghan

Mid Limit Dog (6)
1. Freecloud Bellagio
Black & cream dog. A bit playful on the move at times but got it together enough to take this class. A nice dog who is sound throughout. Nothing flashy about him, but an honest well made hound with front and rear angles matching up well and level topline. Carried his ring tail correctly.
2. Hashirin’s Easy Come Easy Go At Tokando (Imp)
Dark masked gold, lovely dog to go over. Lovely head with arrogant expression finished off with a beard. Strongly made with no weaknesses, with well-angled front assembly and matching rear quarters. Powerful, free striding movement.
3. Birkhall Kyle

Limit Dog (9)
1. Metewand Kalamkari
This self-masked cream headed a superb class of differing types. Again a lovely dog to go over with textbook conformation. He has a balanced head and strong reachy neck. Correct front, level topline, sweeping quarters and low hocks. Deep chest, with correct ribcage to loin ratio. Everything fits so beautifully together. Comes into his own on the move when he storms around the ring with huge raking strides, and is absolutely true both coming and going. I just loved everything about this dog and was delighted to award him his 1st CC. BIS on the Referee’s decision..
2. Metewand Kiltrava To Freecloud
Self-masked cream – another lovely dog that has similar attributes to 1. He has a lean head and a well-shaped eye. He stands over a lot of ground with an arrogant outlook. He displays all of the breed characteristics and he has a lovely coat pattern which serves to enhance his houndy outline. Another who can eat up the ground with his free striding movement. Both these dogs are 1st class.
3. Miamarna Motivator JW ShCM

Open Dog (8)

1. Ch/Ir Ch Metewand Calulo At Birkhall
Another top quality class headed by a self-masked gold - a superb example of the breed and so elegant. Well-proportioned head with good eye shape. Strong neck, level topline, strong loin and well set on tail. Balanced fore and aft, conveying a striking picture on the stack. He comes into his own on the move with a smooth flowing gait, striding around the ring as if he owned it. I could have taken this dog home and it was a very close decision between him and Kalamkari for the CC. My RCC winner, and RBIS with the agreement of my co-judge.
2. Ch Tulak The Fugitive
Dark masked gold of lovely make and shape. Another super dog to go over, balanced throughout, well off for bone, and put down in first class condition. Masculine head of good proportions, arrogant expression, excellent conformation throughout and correctly carried ring tail. Did not let his handler down on the move striding around the ring as well as I have ever seen him go.
3. Ch Tulak The Patriot At Dargai ShCM
