Afghan Hound Association Open Show

20th Oct 2007

I would like to first thank all the exhibitors for allowing me to judge their beautiful hounds and also the society for inviting me to judge their open show in their 80th anniversary year. I had a wonderful day and would like to thank my helpful stewards for the day and to congratulate the committee for running such a wonderful show.

Unfortunately I had to first start judging the dogs within the venue but by Graduate dog the grass had dried out and I continued my judging outside. Overall I had some good quality afghans and was very pleased with both my dog and bitch line up.

 Minor Puppy Dog (1)

  1. Mulligan Mardonna Like A Bat Outa Hell Black and Silver puppy, thoroughly enjoyed his day out, good length of neck and depth of chest, masculine head and dark eye, level topline with ring tail, balanced movement but he is still raw and just needs time to settle into himself.

 Puppy Dog (1)

  1. Livesey & Holden Valkor Born to Perform  Balanced gold puppy, nice head and eye, good length of neck and depth of chest, level topline, ring tail, settled on the move. BPD

 Junior Dog (6,1abs)

  1. Pascoe Sarakhan Senator  Black and silver boy, nice masculine head and eye, good length of neck into layback of shoulder, level topline, his balanced angulation gave him lovely movement, once outside he could really extend himself.
  2. Smith, Adamson & Phillips Zhaqqari T’Nage Kicks (AI) Upstanding black dog, different type to 1st, this dog has an arrogance to him on the stack, lovely chiselled head and dark eye, good length of neck, level topline, ring tail, balanced angulation, unfortunately he could not cope with the floor within the hall and was just not as settled on the move as 1st, it was a very close decision and on another day these 2 could change place.
  3. Hawarden Cloudside Match Master Of Amanrha

 Yearling Dog (1,2abs)

  1. Smith, Adamson & Phillips Zhaqqari T’Nage Kicks (AI)

 Veteran Dog (1)

  1. Latimer Int,UK,Multi Ch Exxos Gameboy at Zharook (imp) well what can I say about this dog, I just loved him and have since he first came into the UK, he has that arrogance that only great dogs have, you can just not ignore him, superb chiselled head and eye, good length of foreface, good length of neck into well laid back shoulder, textbook front, good depth of chest, great angulation to both front and back, ring tail, and when this dog moves he just uses everything he has and powers round the ring with reach and drive, this dog is a gentleman and at nearly nine can still show the youngsters how it is to be done. The showman till the end, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to judge such a wonderful hound. I was pleased to award him BD, BIS and BVIS.

  3. Hitch Captain Morgan of Zendushkas

 Post Graduate Dog (0, 2abs)

Limit Dog (3, 2abs)

  1. Green & Powell Sochera’s Merlot I gave this dog RBD when I judged at the SAC Open Show in 2006 and all the same comments apply now as they did then, a lovely black dog who has such a clean outline. He has a wonderful chiselled head and dark eye who just looks through you, lovely front with good return of upper arm, good depth of chest, level topline finished with a ring tail, balanced angulation, nice length from hip to hock, presented to perfection, unlucky to meet Gameboy here today but I could not deny him RBD and RBIS over a lovely bitch.

 Open Dog (4, 3abs)

  1. O’Neill Ch Amudarya Shekinah At Terstine JW very classic gold dog who I have admired from the ring side, beautifully chiselled head and dark eye, good length of neck into well laid back shoulder, nice depth of chest and spring of brisket, ring tail raised in action, lovely side profile gait, a worthy champion just unlucky to meet the BD and RBD.

 Special Racing Dog (1, 1abs)

 Minor Puppy Bitch (1)

  1. Mulligan Mardonna On The Wings Of Love  self mask gold puppy which I really liked, she has this light springy movement which when her handler found running up the incline difficult she just carried on in front. Very feminine chiselled head, nice length of neck into well laid shoulder, level topline, balanced angulation, ring tail raised in action, moved soundly, will keep an eye on this girl.

 Puppy Bitch (3,1abs)

  1. Latimer Jimellree Never Say Never At Zharook  brindle bitch, has suddenly just grown up into quite the young lady, beautiful eye and expression, great length of neck into well laid shoulder, good front, great depth of chest into well sprung ribs, good angulation both fore and aft which she used to full advantage on the move. Am sure this girl will have a very bright future. BPB and BPIS
  2. Jones & Trethowan Jimellree Molly Maguire At Pahlevi  black mask gold bitch, litter sister to 1st (both are sired by my BIS) and many of the same comments apply, it was a very difficult decision between these to sisters but 1st was just moving more soundly. Again another for the top draw and will watch her career with interest.

 Junior Bitch (6)

It was a close decision between the first three within this class and am sure will change places on numerous occasions, all three very good examples of the breed.

  1. Austin, Borash, North Sarakhan Swansong black mask gold bitch that kept catching my eye and demanding my attention, your hands just flow over this bitch, Lovely eye and expression, good length of neck into well laid shoulders, level topline, good depth of chest, good sweep from hip to hock, she uses everything she has to full advantage on the move. She is a very nice bitch that am sure will have a great future, was pleased to award her RBB.

  3. Hitch cherry Blossom of Zendushkas

 Graduate Bitch (2, 1abs)

  1. Hope, Latimer Shibarghan Double X’Posure At Zharook feminine black and silver bitch, presented a nice picture standing but handler needed more control on the move, when he has this she gives great extension fore and aft using her angulation to full advantage, another daughter of my BIS.

 Post Graduate Bitch (1, 2abs)

  1. Floyd Hubshe Ukemochi black and tan feminine bitch, good head and expression, good underjaw, presented a lovely picture standing, good length of neck and layback of shoulder, level topline, ring tail raised in action, unfortunately handler just did not have full control of her on the move, when she did settle she used her angulation to advantage to give a beautiful side profile gait.

 Limit Bitch (1)

  1. Floyd Hubshe Ko No Hana black and tan bitch, litter sister to my PGB winner, shame comments apply to this bitch as her sister for confirmation, very little to split these two, this girl has just matured that bit quicker and was more settled on the move, she is certainly a show girl and makes you demand her attention, just unlucky to meet the two youngsters for BB.

Barley, Franklin-Barley Sochera’s Safiki  very exotic feminine black girl, presented a lovely picture standing, good length of neck into well laid shoulder, good depth of chest, level topline and good fallaway, ring tail raised in action, simply stylish on the move using herself to full advantage, I was quite taken with this bitch and will continue to watch her develop.
